Dr Peter Hughes
Managing Director and CEO
Peter Hughes has had over 25 years of extensive international business experience in the development and management of complex, multi-faceted business functions and large scale organisations. Peter has held line management responsibilities in both publicly listed and private enterprises, and has previously initialised and founded a global health operating division for a major Australian public company. Peter is a globally recognised expert in the design, development and operation of primary, sub-acute and acute healthcare systems and infrastructure and is a sought after speaker and educator who holds undergraduate degrees in both environmental science and architecture and postgraduate qualifications including an MBA and a DBA.
Peter is the primary Founder of the business and will develop and implement the organisational strategy and assume the lead operational role (non-clinical) in the implementation and deployment of the Kikada Lane Dental support services offerings.
Carl Burroughs has been at the forefront of dental business development in Australia since his entry into the profession in 2001. His marketing company Integrated Dental Marketing (IDM) has helped hundreds of dental practices achieve their goals through proactive marketing plans. Carl has personally advised many of the dental corporations and was one of the original founders of Dental Partners (now Maven Dental) in 2007. Carl and his team at IDM also assist many dental supply companies to promote their products and services to the profession.
Carl is the founder of Marketing Dentistry Institute, which has presented world-renowned speakers such as Dr Bill Dorfman, Dr Howard Farran, Dr Mark Costes and others. Plus today, Carl also owns his own dental practices, which he uses to test new marketing strategies in a real-world environment. In 2016 Carl’s practice in Queensland grew by an astonishing 200% in the face of stiff competition and a saturated local marketplace.
Carl is a columnist for Australasian Dentist magazine and has authored over 80 papers on the topic of dental marketing and practice management as well as ghostwriting for others within the profession.
Director of Operations & Human Resources
Kelli Hughes is a highly experienced Operations and HR professional who has worked in Australia and the UK. Kelli worked in recruitment for many years in a large Melbourne based entity, before forming a number of her own recruitment and HR advisory entities including Kelete Pty Ltd and People in Practice which specialises in the Health Services area. Kelli was the Senior HR Advisor for a major Corporate Dental aggregator who authored and established the entire human resources platform that allowed the business to operate successfully. More recently, Kelli has transformed the operations of an independent tertiary education provider.
Kelli will oversee and provide operational and HR advisory services to Kikada Lane, from managing contractual compliance (employment contracts, policies and procedures) through to practice improvement via educational training and dental accreditation. Kelli will ensure your practice transitions appropriately, and will provide high levels of support in all back-office operational and administrative functional areas with an emphasis on reporting and key staffing matters. One of Kelli’s primary focus areas is to cultivate excellence through maximising an individual’s potential and creating happy safe workplaces.
Tiffany is a qualified CPA with over 15 years of experience as a Finance Professional. She has worked in a variety of industries, including retail, automotive, food and beverage, dental products, and more recently the not-for-profit sector. Tiffany possesses a strong understanding of all aspects of financial accounting. Her ability to implement effective management information systems enables her to facilitate continuous process improvement. She enjoys partnering with key stakeholders to drive commercial results and leverages business relationships to ensure quality deliverables are met through collaboration.
Prior to joining the team at Kikada Lane Dental, Tiffany worked at Beyond Blue as a Financial Business Analyst. During her time with Beyond Blue, she led the reform of annual budgeting and forecasting processes; developed financial reporting tools/models; facilitated group planning; and rolled out financial literacy training for all staff which resulted in much-increased business acumen across the business. Tiffany was an active member of the Business Improvement and Finance teams which were instrumental in implementing Beyond Blue’s Strategic Plan 2015-2020.
Prior to Beyond Blue, Tiffany was the Senior Company Accountant for Pearl Healthcare Ltd, a manufacturing group in the Dental Industry. This role equipped Tiffany with knowledge of the dental industry as well as a strong familiarity with many dental suppliers.
Tiffany manages all financial functions of Kikada Lane Dental, its subsidiaries and affiliated entities. She heads up the Finance Team which oversees all payroll, accounts payable and receivable activities. Tiffany leads the monthly reporting cycle, providing monthly management and cash flow reports to all dental practices as well as the preparation of consolidated financial reports for the Board.
Practice Portfolio Manager
Darren Chan has been involved with the dental industry since 2001 and has managed multiple practices within Dr Smile Family Dentists within that time. He attained a B.Business from UTS and has since completed many management and leadership courses specific to the dental industry. Darren is kept busy looking after his family of 5 and also volunteers his time to serve God in His local church. He loves to play the guitar and is an avid road cyclist.
Darren Chan oversees administrative and operational management duties and general oversight of practice resources and performance to assist in optimising practice growth and brand awareness for Dr Smiles Family Dentists. Darren will work in a cohesive manner with the Head Office operations team inclusive of finance, marketing and human resource management functions.
Darren will have input into strategic initiatives, day-to-day practice activities and issue resolution techniques and implementation of objectives will be required role utilities. Coordination of resources, personnel and procurement functions (including liaison and negotiation with key suppliers when required) to support clinical services will be priorities. Preparation of daily rosters, oversight of all practice improvement methodologies, refurbishment requirements, equipment replacement, marketing programmes, and assistance with recruitment as required will be key further activities. Darren will also assist with data collection, analyses and prepare necessary monthly reports on key activities and practice performance metrics.
Marisca Lee has worked as a practising psychologist across various settings prior to making a career change into business administration. Most recently she worked within upper management in higher education as a College Registrar. During her time in higher education Marisca led business administration initiatives and projects to build and maintain College infrastructure, services, and compliance mechanisms in line with government regulations. Key responsibilities included the interpretation and implementation of federal and state Acts, and regulatory body standards (i.e., Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency, Australian Psychology Accreditation Council), maintenance of College policies and procedures, and the running of day-to-day student administration processes and services.
Marisca will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Kikada Lane head office, implementation of best practice efficiencies during various phases of business growth and provide support to the Kikada Lane Senior Management team as the Administration Manager. Marisca will support the Director of Operations & Human Resources, and where relevant manage, head office systems and equipment, assist with pre-acquisition preparation of statutory paperwork, supplier changeover, and deliver ongoing effective customer service to Practices Principals and Practice Managers.
Clinical Advisory Committee
Kikada Lane Dental will establish a Clinical Advisory Committee to provide advice to the Board on clinical practice, advancements in treatment and technology, training and education and patient growth opportunities.
